Just like women go through menopause, men have a similar hormonal shift during middle age. Around the age of 40, testosterone levels begin to drop about 1% per year. As well in TCM we often see poor digestion as one of the contributing factors to enlarged prostate. When digestion is not optimal food sits around and creates a watery fluid, (edema at time is caused by poor digestion Spleen function. After a while our body heat “cooks” this water stagnated fluid and becomes a mucous like substance. Because of gravity, the damp stagnation will drain down into the pelvis and cause inflammation and enlarged prostate.
